Real Life Sucks

A lot of people criticise teenagers and young adults because of the amount of time we spend on our phones or playing videogames. But while everyone likes to talk about what we do, nobody cares to think about why we do it, and the reason is very simple: real life sucks.

The real world is miserable, full of injustice and poverty, and nobody cares about each other. In the end of the day we get home stressed after working or studying for long hours and tired of dealing with disrespectful people all the time. By watching movies or playing videogames, we can get a glimpse of a life better than our own, of a fantasy world where we can be who we always wanted to be, and where things always have a happy ending.

These fantasy worlds are heavily inspired by real life, but they give us something that society never gave us: a sense of purpose. In the real world we are powerless, but in videogames our actions mean something, there we can actually change or lives for the better, or even save the world from evil. In the real world we are stuck in that same old endless routine, but in videogames we are free, to go wherever we want and to truly be ourselves, and we don't have to worry about being arrested for doing things that in real life would be considered a crime, even if it is to kill a criminal.

So of the main reasons why people are spending more and more time in front of screens, is because most of us prefer what we see on the screen than what we see outside the window. The world is getting worse, and in our society it seems that the evil people are stronger than the good people, so it feels good to dream that someday things will be different.
