Instincts Suppression
I think one of the main reasons most people are not happy today is because we live unnatural lives. Whether we like it or not, we are just animals, and that's all we will ever be. Humans feel superior because we learned how to walk on two legs, make fire, create currency, and invent politics. But if you think that because of this we can deny our own nature, you're wrong. At the end of the day, we're nothing but a bunch of apes walking around in concrete jungles, wearing suits and ties, thinking we're so smart and civilized, but deep inside, we're all sad and miserable.
If you think that humans are the smartest animals on the planet, think again. Science has proven that there are a few species with brains more powerful than ours. The African elephant, for example, has around 257 billion neurons, while we have only 86 billion—about a third as many. So why didn't elephants, or any other species, develop a society like we did? The answer is simple: they didn't develop verbal and written communication, which is the first step to creating a civilization. Developing a language requires more than just billions of neurons; physiology plays an important role as well.
But as time goes by, I'm beginning to wonder if it was a good idea for the human race to learn how to talk and create a so-called civilization, because that was the moment everything started to go downhill. Today, we still have the same animal instincts we used to, but now we have to suppress them to fit in. Cities are not our natural habitat, so we can never feel truly at home there; we long for the wilderness. We also weren't made to work. Our brains don't recognize it as something vital for our survival, that's why we're constantly bored at our jobs.
The male instinct wants us to go hunting for food and fighting for females, while the female instinct wants to feed and care for our offspring. However, some of these things aren't socially acceptable anymore. For example, men aren't taught to fight to protect the weak, as that can be perceived as violence, and if a man simply looks at a woman, he can be labeled a creep. At the same time, women are told that men are trash and are convinced that they don't need to have children.
As a species, we pride ourselves on our intelligence, but since we created a society that goes against our own nature and values, I'd say we're not that intelligent after all.
