Prisoner of your Mind
What stops us from doing what we want to do? The answer is nothing. The problem is that we tend to blame things, like not having enough money or not having enough time, yet both of those things are abstract. Money has only the value that we put on it, and all the things that we can buy with money are worth whatever we say they are. That being said, everything related to money is merely part of an abstract concept. We can say the same about time, because even though time was not a human invention, the way we define time is. The days of the week, for instance, are all made up, and so are the months of the year.
I'm not saying that it's a bad thing that the economy and the calendar exist; without these things, our society would be even more chaotic than it already is. I'm saying that we shouldn't let these abstract things control our lives the way most people do. For example, many people say that they want to travel but they don't have enough money to do so. But that's a lame excuse: if you can't afford a plane ticket, then you can drive to your destination; if you can't afford the gas, or if you don't have a car, then you can get a bus ticket; if you can't afford a bus ticket, you can go by bicycle; if you don't have a bicycle, you can do what your legs were meant to do and walk; even if your destination is thousands of miles away, you'll eventually get there. We don't really have to pay for going from one place to another. The only things we have to pay for are comfort and speed; traveling is actually free.
"Oh, but I don't have the time to go traveling on foot. I have to work on Monday." Really? In that case, all you have to do is quit your job. "Oh, but if I quit my job, I won't have any money." Well, in that case, you have two options: you either start saving money (which is something you were supposed to be doing since the day you started working), or you can quit and begin your journey immediately, as you can always find a new job once you get there, or even work temporary jobs along the way. Don't worry so much about coming back, that's one thing I have never understood about people: if you like the place you spend your vacation so much, then why don't you live there instead of the hole you're living in today? If you mention money, then you have to read this all over again, because you clearly didn't understand the message.
Freedom is a choice.
